On Your Doorstep

Knelle Lodge is superbly located!

Saunton Sands beach- popular with Surfers, Kite Surfers, Paddle Boarders, Dog Walkers and Families- is a couple of minutes walk down the Beach Drive.

Surf Saunton, the local Surf School is located on Saunton beach.  Knelle Lodge guests offered 10% discount on group surf lessons.

Backing onto the beach and directly below Knelle Lodge at the heart of the North Devon AONB is Braunton Burrows, an immense Sand Dune system designated a UNESCO Biosphere, and beloved of nature lovers and walkers.

Set within the Burrows and a ten minute walk/ short drive away is Saunton Golf Club.

Opened in 1897, Saunton Golf Club comprises two 18 hole Championship Links Courses.

The South West Coastal Path- 630 miles of stunning coastline- runs adjacent to Knelle Lodge, and the beautiful Tarka Trail, very popular with cyclists, can be picked up in nearby Braunton; Knelle Lodge to Braunton across the golf course on the coastal path is a lovely cycle ride with only a short stretch on the main road.

Croyde Beach is around the headland from Saunton Sands.  Putsborough and Woolacombe Beaches are just beyond.

And on the horizon, providing the only break before America, is Lundy.

Once the preserve of pirates, Lundy is now very popular with day trippers! It is a ruggedly beautiful and unspoilt island rich in a huge variety of flora and fauna including Wild Flower Meadows, Puffins, Basking Sharks and Dolphins.

In 2010 the island became Britain’s first Marine Conservation Reserve, and it now one of the prime dive sites in the UK; the Coral beds are truly spectacular.

Ferries sale from either Ilfracombe or Bideford during the Summer months.
